Starting in 2009, the UAB GEC and the Alabama Gerontological Society (AGS) will co-host the 2009 Conference. However there is still time to attend the Alabama Gerontological Society 2008 Annual Conference: Discovering Hidden Treasure for Alabama’s Aging Network, April 2 – 4, at the Wynfrey Hotel, Birmingham, Alabama.

Martha Crowther, Ph.D. Associate Professor, Director of Clinical Program, University of Alabama, Department of Psychology. “Drop Anchor, Mate”: Aging, Religion and Health: a discussion of the relationship of religion and spirituality in health.
Lesa Woodby, Ph.D. Associate Director of Education & Evaluation, Birmingham/Atlanta Geriatric Research, Education & Clinical Center, Birmingham VA Medical Center. “Looking Through a Spyglass”: Aging Sensitivity Training Through the Eyes of the Older Adult. Experience firsthand how older adults may be facing life’s challenges of aging. The workshop’s goal is to provide simulated experiences of common types of sensory loss.
Christine Ritchie, M.D. Director, Division of Gerontology, Geriatrics & Palliative Care, University of Alabama at Birmingham. “Prized Loot”: Culturally Competent Care at the End of Life. Workshop will describe important cultural issues that often surface for patients and their families at the end of life using a case based, interactive format.
